While working on this project we have met a wonderful and generous group pf people. Many have been our champions and supporters, other curious onlookers, and some just come by for an occasional chat. As a group we are getting pretty good at "the chat," a informal conversation performed while standing. These chats can be incredibly informative about the going on of the community, and they can also drag on for longer then necessary. We have had to learn how to politely end a chat through a series of "Well, I gotta get back to work" and "Thanks for stopping by" or "good luck with that." Here's some of the folks we have met:
Duane, Terry's dad and generally the most awesome 79 year old man any of us have ever met. He hauls our wood away, scraps the metal, has a portable saw mill, and has been salvaging and reusing materials his whole life. Seriously awesome dude. |
Dorothy, Duane's wife is on the right. She keeps us in sliced bread and cheese blocks. Super nice lady who pretty much takes care of everyone. Jim's wife is on the left. |
Duane's son Jeff who lives in a 1937 Sears mail order house |
| |
Jason, Duane and Dorothy's grandson |
GiGi, an old and friendly Rottweiler who wants nothing but to be petted. |
Jennifer Long, a professional concrete finisher and excellent cook. |
Gary Long, Jennifer's husband, works in milk processing and "turkey call" crafter |
Aspen, an 8 week old black lab puppy. |
Jim, our best cheerleader. He took us to ice cream last week. |
Jim's awesome motorcycle with sidecar. |
Jesse, he lives near the site and stops by ever so often. We hear he recently had surgery and wanted to let him know we are sending goo ju-ju. |
Cindy, she took us on a field trip to the "Palace of Gold" a Hare Karishna compound in West Virginia. |
Joanne and Bill, friends and supporters. |
We didn't meet these folks, but we have visitors to the site all day every day. |
